What happens when one adds strangers to their social media account, especially on Facebook and Instagram?
Can this “lackadaisical attitude” towards privacy lead one to the roads of “peril”?
Yes! anonymity can be dangerous which unfortunately does not base on the user’s gender and puts his/her safety is in jeopardy. But the irony is that in this “Era of technology” no one can imagine themselves without being part of this fabricated virtual world. The interaction in our personal life is now vanishing- while social interaction is searing very high day by day. We don't know our neighbours but we love spying our virtual unknown friends on our social media. And guess what- they may also be spying on you! but at times these anonymous accounts watching us have wrong intentions.
Safety is a full-time job - don't make it a part-time practice
We have seen many articles and news about cybercrime. This above link shares the trauma faced by a bunch of teenage girls who battled with manupalative cunt.
When accounts are hacked it's not just for money- what if someone extorts you for your personal details or for morphed pictures? Who will you blame? You have invited the trouble by adding unknown people to your “personal” profile!!
Don’t leave Private information on a public computer screen that information is private and should not be seen.
Simple questions like "Which is your favourite ice cream store?" to "Where were you born?” sound harmless, BUT!!!! It’s just a way to access to your personal space. You can be tracked with such information and leading you to risk!! Not just you but people who you call family and friends.
“If you don't know the sender, it might be a pretender. …”

The above hacking definition warns you what all can happen when your account gets hacked.
So what do you think those girls should have done to avoid such mishap? A simple solution - avoid unknown- unauthorised intruders in your personal profile on social media.
Don't be a fool, cause safety is cool, so make that your rule.
I think not adding stranger in your social groups can be best way to avoid incidents happened in the above case
ReplyDeleteThe person who wants to add you as a friend. Are they real or are they fake? There's no real way to find that
ReplyDeleteThere should be a system where anonymity is not possible at least on a websites like facebook.
DeleteSocial media is a platform where people tend to connect from places all over the world and share cultural, social and other ideologies, restricting contact is not the best way to curb this.Rather not sharing your private details with people serves as a better means to handle the problem.
ReplyDeleteI agree to you but what if we avoid adding them straight before knowing them at some point
DeleteSpecially I think one should avoid sharing personal information or pics
DeleteA little diligence should be kept when adding strangers to your profile but in this era of globalization its unavoidable to not connect or be limited in our scope of communication. Sharing private photos/details with strangers can jeopardize your life. The thing is people think its cool to send pictures, like any other trend they think its just a picture and throw away their precautionary measures
DeleteYup I also agree with the statement that stranger should not be added in our social media accounts. And in mean while girls should also get knowledge about the hacking tricks. And the school going children, teenager should be awarded about online hacking and the solution to overcome that.
ReplyDelete@yes one should be always aware of what are the side effects of talking to strangers online and chatting to them
DeleteIt's just not about girls but everyone

DeleteAwareness is a must, no matter where technology takes us, there will always be its shares of pros and cons. When the developers brag about the pros awareness should also be created about its cons. This could save people from traumatizing events which they often witness due to their negligence, lack of knowledge and other subjective factors. As far as children are concerned, the schools should arrange workshops for students as well as their parents; for them to deeply understand the importance of maintaining privacy over the internet.
DeleteYes even sharing normal pictures or obscene both or not ok
DeleteAwareness should be there
DeleteAwareness programmes should be conducted physically as well as on social media
Yes, by adding someone as a friend on Facebook can reveal information like your friends, where you work, where you go on holiday, where you went to school, names of family members and even ur contact
DeleteThough we are talking about social media here and pictures girls have shared even sharing personal information can cause loss in fortune
ReplyDeleteFear is something which is absent from the minds of cyber criminals due to the anonymity they feel sitting behind a screen.
ReplyDeleteYes If systems are so slow in US think what can happen in our country
ReplyDeleteThe systems are flawed, the government is trying to do its share but it seems to be never enough. Individual initiatives from our side and display of preventive measures may however help ease some problems
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteOur safety is in our own hands
Due to fear of society in our country, girls don't even report this Getting Justice is far away.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is a great place to connect with friends. But when we allow strangers to be a friend by accepting their friend requests, it can become a dangerous place.
ReplyDeleteAs we have all concluded that our victims, who were naive and negligent to some extent when adding a stranger to their facebook account. This put their life, reputation and well being at risk putting them in harm's way. Technology, as we know, has its pros and cons but the pros are highlighted so magnanimously that people aren't aware of what could happen if they are not diligent when using it. Virtual contact with strangers can sure be fun and explorative but unless you are certain about the intentions of who is sitting behind that screen you are not safe. Sharing of any personal data or pictures gives the hacker a gateway to your virtual and your real world. They can possess a unique control over your life even if they are miles away from you. Laws have been developed and criminals have been caught but the impact it causes on the victims can be traumatizing and recovery isn't always easy. Also, the systems somehow feel incompetent when it takes years and years to prosecute a 19-year-old boy who harassed, tortured, coerced and exploited little girls for his sexual fantasies. Prevention will always surpass cure. Being cool will get you status, but being safe will get you a life.
